Green Power

Would you like the power to help the environment?

Are you concerned about Georgia's natural resources and our environment? Like most of our customers, Irwin EMC believes strongly that we should be stewards of the earth. That is why we are developing cleaner, more environmentally sound energy through a program called Green Power EMC. For the first time in Georgia, customers can choose how their electricity is generated.

The energy will be available to Irwin EMC members in blocks of 150 kwh per month. Since the costs to create green power are higher than those of traditional generation, a small premium of around $4 per month will be charged for each green power block.

What is green power?

Green power is electricity generated from renewable resources that are more environmentally friendly than some traditional power sources. The first projects Green Power EMC will use include biomass, specifically methane gas reclaimed from landfills. Landfill gas comes form the natural breakdown of wastes at the landfill site. The gas is collected and used to generate electricity. Typically the gas is wasted; in most landfills it's just burned off to prevent explosions.

Now you have the power to make a difference in our environment

We are currently accepting requests for green power, since the number of blocks is limited. Billing will begin when the first green power is generated.

You can find more information by visiting Green Power EMC. Call (229) 468-7415, ext. 2311 or email Hope Paulk to sign up for your block of green power today.
